Answer
What
is the Voyager's maximum sewing area?
The
Voyager machine can sew on a hoop as large as 320mm x 320mm (12.5in.
x 12.5in). |
| |
Can
the Voyager sew on caps ? If so, what is the size of the sewing
field for caps? |
Yes!
With the optional cap kit, the HCS Voyager can on many popular types
of caps. Maximum sewing field with the cap attachment is 70mm x 290mm
(2.75" x 7.1") |
What
kind of electrical power do I need to run my Voyager machine? |
You
can run your Voyager machine on standard 110V (house) current.
Just ensure that it's plugged into a properly-grounded 3-prong outlet.
The Voyager machine will also run on 220V current as well. |
Do
I have to re-thread the machine every time I change to a different design?
Unlike some
other compact multi-needle machines, you don't have to do this at all!
As long as the color is already set up on one of the Voyager's 12 color
stations, you only need assign that color to the appropriate color change
in the design, just like the big commercial multi-needle machines ! |
How
many different thread colors can be set up and sewn on the HCS Voyager
for a design? |
The
HCS Voyager machine can handle up to 12 different colors for a design,
repeating them as necessary. |
How "compact" is the HCS Voyager machine? |
The
Voyager machine, at 88lbs, is designed to be light enough to be
easily transportable to shows & other events so that you can have
the portability of a small machine with the speed of a commercial machine
(up to 1000 spm, and true 12-needle automatic needle change! |

Do I need a technician to install and set up the HCS Voyager machine? |
You won't need
to wait for a technician - the HCS Voyager machine comes standard with
an instructional CD (just released) and a manual with detailed setup information
so you can get up and running right away! Installation and training
IS available as an option, depending on the point of purchase. Please
contact your sales representative or dealer if you are interested in such
services. |

After putting together and threading the the HCS Voyager for
the first time, what are some things I should do before I start sewing? |
Try and take
care of these items:
1. Oil the machine (see the label at the front for all the
key points)
2. Set the bobbin tension, then set the top tension
3. At initial power-up, enter the correct date and time in
the control panel.
4. When the sewing, make sure the surface where it sits is
as stable as possible (i.e. vibration-free) for best sewing results.
Does the HCS Voyager need to be kept in a climate-controlled environment? |
Yes.
Keep the machine from extreme temperatures and high humidity. |
What kind of thread can I use with my HCS Voyager? |
Standard embroidery
thread (rayon or polyester) is recommended. The thread stand will
accept both large king cones (5,000meters) as well as smaller-sized cones. |
What is the back-center place for on the thread stand? |
This place
is reserved for the source cone for the bobbin winder. |

Topic: Threading & Tension |
| |
Question
Answer
How often
do I have to set the tensions on my HCS Voyager machine? |
Once you've set the tension
correctly, the Voyager machine should hold the same tension reliably for
a long period of time. Be sure, however, to check the tension when
changing to new thread |
What kind of design should I sew when testing the tensions of
the top (colored) threads? |
A design with
satin stitches will provide a good indicator of proper tension.
When tensioning the machine, (assuming you've properly tensioned the bobbin),
the backing side of the embroidered satins should display a center
stripe of white bobbin thread about 30% of the width of that satin stitch.
If it is wider than this, the top tension is too tight.
If it is narrower than this, or you can barely see the bobbin "stripe"
at all, the top tension is too loose. Click here
to download a file of satin stitches called htest.dst - it consists of
12 "half-H"s each at different colors. Load it into your HCS Voyager
machine and assign each of the 12 satins to a different needle.
It will help you set your tensions as quickly as possible. Be sure
to sew it on the large 320 x 320mm hoop! |

Topic: Transferring Designs to the HCS Voyager Machine |
| |
Question
Answer
What
ways can I load designs into the HCS Voyager machine?
You can load designs from
either:
1. Compact Flash card - this is a popular type of card used for
digital cameras.
2. Serial port connection
3. USB port connection |
What
kind of flash memory card is recommended for the HCS machine?
Is there a maximum size limit on memory? |
Currently, Sandisk CompactFlash
type memory works best with the machine. These cards have worked
well at all sizes, from 32Mb to 256 Mb. |
Where
can I find the latest driver for the USB connection? Does the serial
connection need a driver? |
You can download the latest
copy of the USB driver here. The serial connection does not
require the installation of a driver. |
